Stand-ins

In this set of work, "Stand Ins", I am interested in surfaces that stop doing their usual job. After living with these surfaces for a while I think they are quite friendly. I hope the viewer lingers with them for a while, and finds the same hospitality in them. They allow me to participate in a kind of release-ment of my own situation.

Noah Maier (b. 1991, Atlanta) lives and works in Durango, Colorado. He composes photographs from a contemplative tradition, drawing on the influence of more patient view camera artists like Alec Soth and Robert Adams, but shooting with the immediacy of the rangefinder. While working in Atlanta he studied under Marilyn Suriani (1951-2024). With few exceptions, his photographs are taken with a Leica M6, an old Leitz 50mm, and shot on Kodak Portra 400.
